Rosetti Marino delivers “F.D. REMARKABLE” to Luigi D'Amato

On 7th January, approximately 12 months since building was commenced, Rosetti Marino, delivered the new Platform Supply Vessel “F.D. Remarkable” to Fratelli D’Amato.

It is the 7th vessel of a 10-unit series - Rolls Royce UT 755 XL design, commissioned by the Neapolitan Owner to the Italian Shipyard
Before being officially named, F.D. Remarkable  was registered at the Harbour master’s office with the provisional name “C. 104  Rosetti”. Like its predecessors, it has a length of 75 m., a width of 16 m. and a deadweight of over 3,000 tons.

The ship  has a CP propulsion system  made up of 2 stern propellers of approx. 3 m. driven by General Electric diesel engines producing  a total power of 5,580 kW (approx. 7,600 hp), which allows  F.D. Remarkable to reach a maximum speed of over 14.5 knots and  gives it a cruising range of over 3,500 miles  and excellent manoeuvrability thanks to the 4 computer-controlled bow thrusters (2 bow and 2 stern).
This Platform Supply Vessel (Rolls- Royce project UT755XL) is characterized by a very high level of engineering, automation and technology. The PSV has been designed to provide assistance to offshore oil platforms and to safely transport equipment and material to and from the platforms - even those located in very rough waters, such as the Baltic sea and the North Sea and even in particularly adverse weather conditions  also thanks to the support of a reliable dynamic positioning.

Rosetti Marino, a turnkey builder of oil platforms and service vessels for the offshore sector (Platform Supply Vessels and Anchor Handling Tugs), inaugurated a new shipyard near Aktau in Kazakhstan in 2011 and has acquired new important contracts which ensure a significant workload until 2013 as far as the “platform” sector is concerned and until 2014 regarding the “newbuilding” sector.

F.D. Remarkable’s Godmother was Mrs. Rossella Scotto Di Carlo, the wife of Captain Pio Schiano Lomoriello, Technical Director of  Fratelli D’Amato. The Godmother cut the ribbon to break the bottle of champagne over the ship’s bow at 11:30. This took place at the Rosetti Marino San Vitale Shipyard managed by Cesario Mondelli in the presence of Authorities, guests, both companies’ top management and their employees and families.

Jasmine jackets take shape

Construction of the jackets for the Jasmine project is in full swing, and the ‘Jasmine Way’ is alive and well in the Rosetti Marino Piomboni yard at Marina di Ravenna in Italy.

After the contract was awarded to Rosetti Marino in February last year, an initial team led by construction supervisor Scott Bonner was deployed to commence the establishment of ConocoPhillips representation on site. ConocoPhillips now has 16 staff and contract employees monitoring the fabrication and erection activities with disciplines in place for health, safety and environment, QC/QA, engineering, scheduling, cost, contracts and document control.

‘The contract represents a lump sum project for the procurement and construction of the three jackets. The wellhead platform jacket is on schedule to load-out in mid-April and will be followed by the fabrication of the riser platform jacket and the living quarter jackets. The last two are scheduled for simultaneous load-out in April next year,’ explains Scott.

The main contractor is supplemented by several sub-contractors for both off-site and on-site activities. All of the primary steel for the wellhead platform jacket was procured from the same facility in Germany and the primary and secondary tubulars were rolled and formed in the Netherlands and Germany, then trucked to site for final erection activities.

Safety on site continues to be good with just over 400,000 work hours completed through to the end of January with no lost time injuries or reportable injuries. ‘This can be attributed to great teamwork, training programmes and co-operation between ConocoPhillips, Rosetti Marino and all of their subcontractors,’ says Scott. ‘Everyone feels that they are involved in a very special project here and are very proud to play their part in it.’

Jasmine WHP Jacket - 500.000 manhours without LTI

On 18th March 2011, a celebration for having reached 500,000 manhours worked on Jasmine WHP Jacket, without a lost time injury, took place at the Piomboni Yard in Marina di Ravenna.
The celebration was conducted by both Conoco Phillips and Rosetti Marino Project Management, in front of all manpower involved in fabrication activities.
In particular, eight workers were mentioned for outstanding behaviour and for showing proactive commitment towards health and safety.
This important milestone achieved is in line with the Organisation target of zero accidents at the workplace.

KCOI Project Acquisition - Offshore & Onshore Commissioning Services

The project consists in the provision on a Call Off basis of Commissioning Assistance by means of skilled and qualified personnel as well as commissioning services such as procurement, testing/repair activities and finishing/modification works.
The works will be carried out in Kazakhstan and, more specifically, both in the Karabatan Onshore Site nearby Atyrau and Offshore on the Island D while the main project office is located in Atyrau.
The project estimated duration is 3 years and the Project Team will be guided by the Project Manager Alessandro Taddei.

Drilling & Risks & Opportunities Brain Storming

“Integrated Drilling Deck for AUK South Redevelopment Project”
One day seminar at Palazzo Manzoni (Ravenna)

January 24, 2011 was dedicated to “Drilling & Risks & Opportunities Brain Storming” by Talisman  Rosetti Marino S.p.A. project team. It has been the occasion:
• to clarify the project scope, program and organization to those project team members, unfamiliar  with the principles of project management and control, applied in complex project management;
• to involve the Groups' companies to expand the frontiers of knowledge;

It was therefore arranged a meeting with the participation of both Rosetti, Basis and Tecon, whose individual points of intervention are listed in Table 1 below.

Item Discussed

Lecturer

1) Drilling, Oil Reservoirs and the drilling module of Talisman

The first intervention, which was extended to include topics more strictly geological and cultivation in the oil reservoirs, was deemed necessary due to the fact that Rosetti is the actor for the first time, in the construction of a drilling module, whose contractual plant is very close to an EPC. Therefore, starting from a base in general has contributed to highlight the main features of the drilling module of Talisman.

The second intervention was considered essential to share in such occasion, and it was related to the sensibility that Rosetti must adhere to, in order to deliver to the client a single construction contract to a contract very similar to an EPC. Therefore, it was traced throughout the history of the contracts issued to date and the different attitudes held by Talisman in the negotiations to get the assignment of engineering by Rosetti inclusive of the "Design Authority" and the option to make major purchases for the customer.

Work on the plan has been made to disseminate and instill the culture and sensitivity needed to understand that projects without careful planning and push are destined to fail. There has been a general first aid on how to plan and its philosophies (defined Scope of Work, WBS, project Quantities, network planning and type of links between activities). The other interventions were focused on the Talisman project taking the opportunity to explain the techniques used during the writing of several revisions of the schedule with specific examples taken from the last program requirements. Finally, the critical path of project was explained in detail, to prepare the participants to what was the final speech and the climax of the seminar and that included all participants in the initiative.

Last collective action was in fact dedicated to SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities & Threats), as part of the course material, a SWOT matrix with attached instructions for its proper completion was previously distributed.  Questions were asked during the seminar, on risks and opportunities of the project, seen from different angles of the participants, each of which sought to give their professional contribution. Each contribution was made common factor. The end result from the SWOT analysis  table will be part Risks and Opportunities which will be attached to the Budget review of the project.

A very positive note resulted with regards to the interest of all technical issues relating to both the module that were expressed during the session to the issues regarding the project control management and most of all, the planning that went on and interested all the participants.
